Itinerary

DAY 1

  • Your ED pilot will receive you at Guwahati Airport or Railway Station based on your arrival schedule. From here, we begin our journey into the wild beauty of Arunachal Pradesh.
  • Our destination today is the quaint, lesser-known village of Shergaon, nestled deep in the West Kameng district. The drive takes around 6 hours, winding through scenic highways, forested slopes, and sleepy Assamese towns.
  • En route, we stop for a hearty lunch at a local dhaba for a taste of the road and regional flavors.
  • By the time we reach Shergaon, the golden light of dusk will be setting the pine forests aglow. Check into your traditional homestay and take in the stillness.

DAY 2

  • Wake up to the scent of pine and the first light spilling through the hills, morning tea and a simple breakfast to start the day slow.
  • Our journey begins with a drive up to Mandala Top, perched at nearly 10,000 ft. Here, 108 whitewashed stupas stand in quiet harmony, each built by a local family which is an offering of devotion, community, and peace.
  • From Mandala, we descend into a hidden valley few travelers know, called Chug. Tucked deep into the folds of the mountains, it feels like a world paused in time.
  • Today’s lunch is no ordinary meal. In collaboration with the locals, we’ve created a fine-dining experience unlike anything in Arunachal, where heirloom Monpa recipes meet thoughtful plating, indigenous ingredients, and intimate storytelling. All served in a charming village setting that blends authenticity with elegance.
  • Later, wander through Chug’s winding trails and forest edges with our local guide. This isn’t a walk; it’s an immersion.
  • As the sky softens, we make our way to Dirang for the night, where time slows again, and comfort wraps around you like a quiet mountain breeze.

DAY 3

  • After a hearty breakfast, we begin our ascent toward Tawang, one of Arunachal’s most legendary highland towns.
  • The road winds through dramatic mountain landscapes until we reach Sela Pass, standing tall at nearly 16,000 feet. With prayer flags fluttering and the still waters of Sela Lake reflecting the sky, this sacred pass feels like a quiet prayer etched into the mountains.
  • Nearby, a humble army café offers warmth in the form of hot chai and simple snacks, the kind of comfort that feels extraordinary in the crisp high-altitude air.
  • We then descend towards one of the region’s most majestic sights – Jung Falls, this hidden giant crashes through forested cliffs in a thundering cascade, equal parts power and poetry.
  • By evening, we arrive in Tawang, a hillside town steeped in history and Himalayan silence. The evening is yours to explore—perhaps a cozy café, a slow walk through town, or simply time spent unwinding under woollen blankets.

DAY 4

  • Wake to a quiet morning in the mountains, where the air carries the scent of pine and the light slowly touches the monastery roofs.
  • After breakfast, we begin our journey toward some of the most beautiful high-altitude lakes in Arunachal, scattered along the road to Bumla near the Indo-China border.
  • These alpine lakes, tucked between ridges and sky, reflect the clouds with a stillness that feels sacred. Some are known only to locals, while one briefly appeared in a Bollywood film, though no screen can capture the hush of this landscape.
  • Return to Tawang by late afternoon. The rest of the day is open, perfect for unwinding or discovering a hidden café in the hills.

DAY 5

  • Begin the morning with a visit to the iconic Tawang Monastery, the second-largest in India. Its vast prayer halls and golden rooftops echo with centuries of devotion.
  • Depending on your interest, we can explore a few more local gems around Tawang before bidding farewell to this mystical town.
  • After breakfast and morning tea, we start our return journey to Dirang.
  • On the way, we stop at Chakzam Bridge. Built nearly 400 years ago by a Tibetan monk, this ancient iron suspension bridge stretches across a deep gorge and stands as a powerful reminder of the region’s heritage and resilience.
  • Reach Dirang and visit its hilltop monastery, a beautifully located space of calm and prayer. It is especially magical at sunset when the sky turns golden and prayer flags dance in the breeze.
  • Let the evening unfold slowly, with time to pause, reflect, and soak in the mountain quiet from your retreat in Dirang.

Day 6

  • For those up with the sun, join the morning chants at Dirang Monastery—where incense smoke curls into the cold air and the valley still feels half-asleep.
  • Hike through ancient pine trails to Bishum Phudung and Sangti Valley, guided by our local friend who knows these lands like memory.
  • Wander through villages where time holds a slower rhythm, stories echo in stone walls, and every passerby has a smile to spare.
  • Sit down to a lovingly prepared traditional meal—either inside a warm village home or as a riverside picnic if the skies allow.
  • By late afternoon, begin your journey back to Shergaon, with quiet roads, golden light, and the feeling of having touched something timeless.

Day 7

  • Wake up to your final morning in the quiet charm of Shergaon, where the mountains bid farewell with birdsong and soft light.
  • Depending on flight timings, take a slow walk through the village or visit a hidden monastery or orchard—one last glimpse into local life.
  • Begin the drive back to Guwahati, with valleys behind and memories packed gently alongside.
  • Reach the airport in time for your departure, carrying stories of rivers, chants, laughter, and landscapes that stay long after goodbye.
