Itinerary
DAY 1
- Leave early morning from Guwahati for a scenic 1.5-hour drive to Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, a compact yet wildlife-rich haven nestled on the floodplains of the Brahmaputra. Known for its incredibly high density of one-horned rhinoceros, Pobitora offers one of the best chances in India to witness these majestic creatures in the wild.
- Begin your adventure with a peaceful elephant safari through dew-soaked grasslands. As the mist lifts, watch for rhinos grazing just meters away, along with wild boars, swamp deer, and water buffaloes.
- After the safari, enjoy a hearty local breakfast near the park gates — fresh, simple, and well-earned.
- Next, hop into a jeep safari that takes you further into the sanctuary’s inner zones. The open jeep allows for great photography and birdwatching, with sightings of rhinos, wild boar, hares, and more.
- Take a guided nature walk along the Haduk Hanging Bridge spanning Garanga Beel. This charming, miniature “Howrah-bridge” offers great photo opportunities and peaceful bird watching
- Relax with a light snack or picnic-style lunch near the park entrance, enjoying rural scenery and local tea.
- By 3 PM, set off in a traditional country boat on the Brahmaputra backwaters, drifting through reed-lined channels. Keep your eyes peeled for the rare river dolphins as they surface — a magical wildlife encounter.
- Head back to Guwahati by early evening, carrying memories of rhinos, rivers, and rural charm — all in one rewarding day.
