Meghalaya whose name comes from 2 Sanskrit words Megh and a-laya meaning clouds and abode respectively. True to its name, when you visit Meghalaya during monsoons, you are gonna be floating amidst the clouds. Quite literally and figuratively.
Meghalaya is about good music, amusing hikes to fierce waterfalls and root bridges, swimming in natural pools, food, wine and adventures. It is about living in a community and contributing to its unique conservation methods.
This trip is a curated route to explore all of these adventures in the state.
Rainproof yourselves as we embark on this wet and wild journey across The East Khasi Hills.
Your city – Guwahati airport – Shillong
Today is about breaking the ice with the new place, fellow travellers and acclimatising to the new environment.
Today being Saturday we don’t need to be lucky to find good live music scenes in a couple of places. We will hop to some cafes/pubs and experience a testament to why Shillong is called the “Rock capital of India”.
Shillong – Mawlyngbna – Cherrapunjee
Today is about unleashing the kid in you. There couldn’t be a better way to start the trip River Canyoning is a super fun sport where you basically walk along the river route. There are places where you’ll have to jump, swim and even slide. It is super fun and you don’t need to be a swimmer for this. Let’s not talk much about it and leave it for you to experience it.
Cherrapunjee aka Sohra – Nongriat
Spend a day in a rural Meghalayan village without road connectivity. Explore the authentic way of village life, hike through several root bridges and long suspension bridges to hidden natural pools and a waterfall. Stay at a local house with sounds of the gushing streams, fierce waterfalls and stars/clouds filled sky.
Nongriat – Cherrapunjee
Today is about just relaxing, soaking in and being mindful of the beauty around, moving slowly to some of the most spectacular handpicked spots in Cherrapunjee. On availability, we will try and invite one of our local musician friends to come and jam with us in old rock classics hopefully around a bonfire if it ain’t raining.
Cherrapunjee – Guwahati Airport
Today the trip comes to an end. We end the adventure with a scrumptious brunch at an ED recommended cafe. We will then head to the airport as per flight timings.
